Bullying

It is more and more common to see in the classroom some students that attempt against the integrity of their partners: they hide their lunch or attack them physically and psychologically. This type of abuses makes feel children vulnerable and, in some cases, they become aggressive or try to kill themselves.

Some teachers have described various forms of bullying:

  • Social block: the child is isolated prohibiting him to play with others, stop talking with him or telling him bad things that show his weakness.
  • Harassing: it consists of hounding psychologically the child looking down on him or being disrespectful to his dignity through jokes, bad words, etc.
  • Social manipulation: the child’s social image is deformed showing a negative personality and for that reason everybody will hate him.
  • Violence: the child is forced to do things he does not want. This let the attacker control him against his will.
  • Intimidation and threats: the attacker fills him with fear or extorts the child and is integrity.

Based on this information the question would be: What do the teachers have to do if they detect some of those behaviors? How could they create an environment where students respect others and accept the differences?

That is certainly what many teacher have to deal with when they begin their labour. It is in those situations when the teacher has to be an observer of the problem and be prepared to manipulate the enviroment of violence and abuse.
Of course it will be difficult, due to the fact that not only children from 10 to 13 years old will be involve in this situations. There also will be youngs of 15 years old and more who you cannot calm down easily or who can messin' up with you for trying.
As you propose, teachers should create different strategies where students would be able to manage their problems with the others and themselves.
